AI agents can already plan a trip, restock a pantry, and top up their own API credits. The one thing standing between them and actually doing it is a payment method. And nobody sensible hands their real card to a language model.

AI agents are becoming economic actors. They book flights, order food, pay for SaaS subscriptions, top up API credits, and settle with suppliers, often faster than a human could approve the request. But they don't have payment infrastructure built for that.

prepaid, not credit
The worst case should always be bounded. An agent can only ever lose what you chose to load.

humans approve, by default
Autonomy is a dial, not a switch. Big or unusual spends should always reach a person first.

no special agent lane
Agents use the same API humans do, with the same guardrails. A backdoor for machines is a backdoor.

open source, on purpose
If you're trusting our ledger with your money, you should be able to read every line of it.
